As he turned 80 years old Thursday August 19, 2021, a group of former Doctoral students all by then senior academics in their own right, most of them from Babcock but including one Ibadan product, celebrated their Teacher Emeritus Professor J. ‘Bayo Adekanye as Quintessential Academic Giant and Icon@80”. It was in a public Tribute advertisement placed by these former students and appearing in the Nigerian Tribune (Ibadan), Thursday August 19, 2021. Besides that public show of appreciation and commendation, a number of these former PhD supervisees did also travel on that same day from their various locations to see their Teacher at home in Ibadan, present him with copies of the newspaper publication carrying their Tribute, and be part of the family celebrations being held in his honour. All the guests attending the private party, including a few professional colleagues, close family members, and friends, were very impressed by these former students’ depth of gratitude and appreciation to their Teacher, and by the way they had gone about expressing it.
